Paritranaya Sadhunam

Paritranaya sadhunam vinashaya cha dushkritam.
Dharma sansthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge.

(Gita 4:8)
For the up-liftment of the good and virtuous,
For the destruction of evil,
For the re-establishment of the natural law,
I will come, in every age

These golden words were spoken by lord Krishna to Partha, at the dawn of the first day of the Great Mahabharata War at Kuruksetra, when he is all disillusioned and has to make a choice between doing the right and fighting his brothers.

Fast-forward to present day and you can easily draw a metaphor to the above mentioned Partha and to the millions that make up this great country. India is Rising, no doubt and is on-road to become one of the greatest economic and technological superpowers of the world. But I often feel that India is like a chained Phoenix.

Though has risen from the ashes of the British Raj, it is unable to take flight, bound by the shackles of nothing but corruption, bigoted conservativeness, and the fight over trivial matters (Check out this post from Bhatta to see what i mean), when a diamond mine lies straight ahead.

Politics can be defined as “The methods or tactics involved in managing a state or government”. But here, politics is the “art” of clinging on to the seats of power (often shamelessly), and making so called necessary reforms, so that it ensures your return to highest echelons of power. We are like Arjuna-Partha, stunned and silent, watching all this unfold in front of us, time and again, not having the courage to do what is right and take the easy way out and go along with it all, or worse still, not be bothered about it at all.

A glimpse of hope now has dawned on the horizon. “Lok Paritran” (or Emancipator of the Masses) is a new party that has been floated by ex-IITians, trying to make a difference. A set of educated (That would be an understatement) Indians, who could all have had a luxurious life at mansions in Hawaii or Silicon valley, have plunged into politics, with a vow for the betterment of society. Check out these guys

Santhanagopalan Vasudev (Chief Advisor)
B.S. (Physics) University of Missouri,Kansas, USA
MA(Economics) New York Univ, New York, USA

Tanmay Rajpurohit (National President)
B. Tech.(Aerospace Engg) IIT Bombay
MS(Aerospace Engg) Georgia Tech, Atlanta, USA
MA(Economics) New York Univ, New York, USA

Chandrashekhar (National General Secretary)
B. Tech. (Computer Science & Engg)IIT Kanpur

They are contesting elections in 7 constituencies in TamilNadu, against political heavyweights. I truly hope this guys can make the difference and it spreads like wild fire, all over the nation, much like how our freedom struggle started.

Check out the party homepage – http://www.lokparitran.org/
Their manifesto – Lok Paritran Manifesto

An interview of the Party leaders that came in Headlines today (thanks to Sudhish Kamath for the video)

Lok Paritran was interviewed by Headlines Today around mid of April. But for the fact that the host couldn't even pronounce the name right and wrongly assumed it was inspired by Rang De Basanti, it turned out to be an interesting capsule, when the party actually predates the movie.

I don't quite agree with some things in your blog. I don't think India rose from the ashes after the british rule. I believe the limitations of India's first leaders are one of the main causes for what we are today. Anyway, this is quite irrelevant to the topic u've written on actually...still woth a mention.

i agree with you madhu, but in the current scenario we need to see how many ppl are going to support lokparitran. The educated section of the society is not bound to stay in their homeland...we are all examples of that.I have my voting rights in kerala, but i couldnt go over for the recently held elections. So in Indian democracy, its the voice of the common man which is gonna matter and how deep lokparitran can get into the indian society will determine if we are on a course of revival. many ppl hope they succeed in their venture, but its a very tough road ahead for them and they badly need all of us to help in getting the message as deep as possible.

I agree Ragul... but if you listen to the video, Gopal makes a point that struck me. Each election, herdly 50% of the population vote (i was surprised that kerala voting this time touched 70%). He says, the other half is frustrated and feel that their votes are not worth giving to any of the parties. He wants to get them involved (and this consist of the middle class, not ony IT guys who are abroad, but also bankers, personnel and other civilian genres. i really hope they or someone similar can mobilize the masses for the cause of national upgradation.

I feel India is like a SuperComputer with inadequate backup power on the UPS....

That's right. In Chennai, they are contesting in 5 constituencies I think and I read that they deliberately chose the constituencies that showed the steepest drop in voters the last few years. They also said that they are more interested in the people who haven't turned up and it is those votes they plan to gather. Definitely a tough road ahead, but I feel if they win in just 2 of the 5 constituencies, thats a great victory.
But one thing I truly believe is that unless we give up this Robin Hood philosophy that was started many decades ago, we won't see true progress.

Cleanliness just like charity, begins at home.. Before we clean the society, lets clean our innerselves. How many of us really care of the happenings in the world(apart from the 10 min we spend before the daily paper?)Hardly any.
But each one of us cares if there is a debit in our bank a/c or a cut in our pay..At the end of the day its just ourselves that matters.. Lets accept it guys..we have to release ourself from the self-centeredness to change the world..to care..or to make a difference.

This is a good blog and i enjoy reading posts like this...

I say, India can be developed only when we fight strongly against corruption and corrupted leaders. We need leaders like Anna Hazare. Currently the main problems faced by India are corruption, lack of education and poverty, apart from terrorism and population growth.

As Ramya said, we need to come out of our self centered lifes and do something good for the people.

There are various online auction sites that you simply can check out every once in awhile if
you wanted to have the best prices on your ugg boots.
If you've no idea about whether these boots you want are real or not, it's advisable not
to acquire them. In addition, whenever you seem in the labels for the manufacturing site,
you need to bear in mind that the labels which exhibit "Manufactured in China" are authentic, and lots of others
are counterfeits.

I most certainly do agree with what you say and with one of the commentor. We did not build India from ashes after freedom. It is not that people are too tolerant. It started that way back then. But now, people don't care.
Nicely presented though.
